When working with Shopify Markets, it’s important to understand how shared domains affect language settings. If multiple markets use the same domain, language changes are synchronized automatically across those markets.
I. How Shared Domains Work in Shopify Markets
A shared domain means multiple markets are using the same primary domain (for example, mystore.com). In this setup, Shopify treats languages as domain-level settings, not market-specific ones.
As a result, Transtore follows Shopify’s logic and keeps language configurations consistent across all markets using that same domain.
II. What Happens When You Add a Language
Scenario:
You have three markets — United States, Canada, and Australia — all using the primary domain mystore.com.
You add Spanish to the United States market
Because these markets share the same domain, Spanish is automatically added to Canada and Australia as well
The language will appear across all markets using mystore.com
? This helps ensure a consistent multilingual experience on the same storefront domain.
III. What Happens When You Remove a Language
Scenario:
Continuing with the same setup, you decide to remove Spanish from the United States market.
Spanish is removed from the shared domain
It is automatically removed from all other markets using mystore.com
The language will no longer be available on any market tied to that domain
IV. When This Synchronization Does Not Apply
Language syncing only occurs when markets share the same domain.
In case you have 2 Markets with different domains. For example:
United States → mystore.com
France → fr.mystpre.com
If you add or remove a language in the France market, it will not affect the United States market, since each market uses a different domain.
