I. Shopify Markets and Shopify Payments
When a store uses Shopify Payments, Shopify Markets unlocks additional currency options.
- Fixed currency for each market: Shopify assigns one fixed currency to the market. When a customer accesses the store from that market, prices are shown in this fixed currency and the checkout page also uses the same currency. In this setup, both storefront base pricing and checkout currency are controlled by Shopify.
- Use local currencies: Shopify automatically selects the checkout currency based on the customer’s country and the currencies supported by Shopify Payments. Customers within the same market may see different checkout currencies depending on their location. The checkout price and currency are always recalculated by Shopify and cannot be overridden by third-party apps. https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/international/pricing/set-up-local-currencies
II. How Transtore Converts Currency
Transtore applies currency conversion at the storefront level to help customers clearly understand prices while browsing your store. It updates prices displayed on the home page, collection pages, product pages, and the cart page.
When a target currency is selected, Transtore uses the default price defined in your Shopify Market as the base price, then converts that amount into the selected target currency for storefront display. This ensures price consistency with your market settings while presenting localized prices to shoppers.
Transtore does not convert prices on the checkout page. Once a customer enters checkout, all pricing and currency calculations are fully handled by Shopify through Shopify Markets and Shopify Payments.
III. Why Prices Can Be Different Between Markets Even When Using the Same Currency
Prices can differ between markets even when the same currency is used because pricing is managed separately for each market by Shopify. Each market can have its own base prices, adjustments, taxes, and rounding rules.
Transtore always uses the market’s default price as the base for storefront conversion. If two markets have different base pricing, the converted prices will also be different, even when the currency shown is the same. Checkout prices are then recalculated again by Shopify based on the active market.
IV. Does Transtore support multiple currencies on the checkout page?
Transtore does not control or convert currency on the checkout page.
Checkout currency conversion works only when Shopify Payments is enabled. Without it, checkout will always use the store’s default currency. In some cases, even with Shopify Markets and Use local currencies enabled, certain currencies may not be supported and Shopify will automatically fall back to the default currency.
This behavior is expected and is part of Shopify’s checkout system, not a limitation of Transtore. https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/supported-countries
