Why Can’t I Select a Language as a Target Language in Transtore?

Modified on Thu, 25 Dec, 2025 at 2:46 AM

If a language you want to add doesn’t show up in Transtore, it’s usually related to how your default language is set. Understanding this logic will help you avoid confusion during setup.

I. Understanding Default Language vs. Target Languages

Your default language is the original language of your store content. Transtore uses this language as the source and translates it into other languages, known as target languages.

Important: Transtore only translates from the default language to other languages. It does not translate a language into itself.

II. Why the Language Is Missing

Example scenario:
You want to add French as a target language, but it doesn’t appear in the target language list.

Reason:
Your store’s default language is already set to French. Since Transtore cannot translate French content into French, that language is automatically excluded from the target language options.

How to Fix It:

To make the language available as a target language:

  1. Change your store’s default language to another language (for example, English)

  2. Save the changes

  3. Return to Transtore’s language settings

  4. You’ll now see French available to select as a target language

III. Recommended Setup Tip

Before enabling translations, make sure all store content—products, pages, menus, and labels—is written consistently in your default language. This ensures more accurate and reliable translations across all target languages.
